Today, we have a recommendation for a restaurant from Alain, a greeter. He went to a cosy Bolivian restaurant located in the quiet Saint-Jean neighborhood. The place is called "Sabor Latino"; it does not even have a dedicated website, which may sounds not in tune with the times. In this case, it actually reminds us of the the true meaning of "hidden gem". Let Alain presents the place.
"I recently discovered Sabor Latino while my girlfriend was visiting. It is a small restaurant specialized in Bolivian food. I never tried this cuisine before, but soon discovered how tasty it is. The place offers the options to either eat on tables or order for take-away at the counter.
It was Sunday and we felt like eating home after a walk. The owners are from Bolivia and propose delicious home-made empanadas among others. I did not know what Empanadas were. These are are made by folding dough or pastry with stuffing consisting from a variety of meat, vegetables or cheese. We took the ones with chicken and beef and asked some hot spicy sauce with it. The restaurant also proposed 3 to 4 dishes of the day to eat at the tables. On Sunday the place had some families and young latino people. There are a lot of locals from Latin America and Portugal living in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The restaurant also has a small corner-shop section with products and drinks from Latin America. What we liked is that the place is very laid-back, and prices are very fair for Geneva. Finally, it is opened on Sundays (which is not the norm here, unfortunately)
Don't hesitate to pass by and take the opportunity to have a look at the residential area of Saint-Jean. If you continue straight, you will walk though a park by the cliff and then go down to the pedestrian bridge with a marvelous view of the junction of the Rhône and Arve rivers. They have different colors mixing at this point creating an impressionist "water painting (see pictures below)."
Enjoy! Alain :-)
